One thing that the DIY method was missing was a more precise way of seeing where a user was touching. Overall you get a pretty comprehensive recording of how someone is using your mobile product for very little cost. In Barry’s setup the mobile device’s screen is shared with a laptop running screen recording software, the laptop’s front-facing camera catches the nearby user’s expressions, and a cheapo USB webcam on a bendy stick records what the user’s fingers and thumbs were doing.
